What You Need to Play Beer Die
- 4 Beverages: whatever floats your boat
- 4 Players: ideally with people you like
- 4 Cups: Beer Die Cups > Plastic Red Solos (trust us)
- Dice: Standard 16mm, square cornered
- Table: Official size is 4ft x 8ft x 3ft (avoid gray fold up tables with no bounce)
How to Set Up Beer Die
- Fill up and place cups in each corner of the table.
- Stand next to your partner with your opponents across the table.
- Create a halfway line to split the table (sand, bottle caps, etc.).
- Roll for offense: Guess high (4–6) or low (1–3). Win the toss to start.
- Set a height rule: The minimum height for tosses to be counted.
- Dap up your opponents and wish them luck — it’s tradition.
How to Score in Beer Die
- Tap the dice on the table and say “dye up” before tossing.
- Toss underhand, from behind your side of the table, above the agreed height.
Scoring Breakdown:
0 Points: Miss the table, hit your side, throw too low, or a clean defensive catch.
1 Point: Dice hits the opponent's side and hits the ground, or stays on the table as a 5.
2 Point: Dice hits a cup and hits the ground, or stays on the table as a 5.
3 Points: Dice is sunk into opponent's cup, both on a fly or on a bounce.
How to Play Defense in Beer Die
- One-Hand catches only. Two hands = automatic point for the offense.
- No body traps. No pinning the die against yourself or objects.
- No reaching over the table. Defenders must stay outside the 4ft x 8ft play area.
- No bobble re-hits. Once touched, the dice can't hit the table again.
- Cup sunk? Finish your drink, refill, and avoid rolling a 5 or else finish a new drink.
How to Win in Beer Die
- Play to 9, win by 2. You can play to whatever your heart desires.
- Win on worthy tosses. 1 points on the table are re-tossed.
- Redemption round. Opponents keep shooting until they don't score (if agreed).
- Dap up your opponents. GGs.
Beer Die Drinking Rules (Optional)
- Basic: Finish your drink every 3 points the opponent scores.
- Sinks: Finish your drink immediately if your cup is sunk.
- Rolling a 5 after a sink: Finish an additional drink (if you're feeling frisky).
- Freestyle: Set your own drinking rules — just keep it fun and safe.
Fun Beer Die Variations
- Own Goals: Sink your own cup? Finish your drink and lose 3 points.
- Shutouts: If you lose without scoring, agree on a punishment.
- Clean Catches Only: No bobbles, no assists — pure catching skill.
- Bobble Contact: After a bobble, defenders are fair game for playful contact.
- Picks: Set screens like in pickup basketball on the defensive team.
- FIFAs: If an opponent airballs, kick the dice to your partner who must catch it for a point.
Final Thoughts: Why We Love Beer Die
Beer die is more of a sport than a drinking game. It’s about sportsmanship, competition, and enjoying all the laughs and stories along the way. There are dozens of ways to play, but the best rule is simple: make it fun and agree on your own rules before you start.
Now enough reading, grab some dice and toss, just not low.
